We live in the Wind River Valley, which is aptly named because it's, well, really windy. One of best parts of the Ranch is that it's a hair less so than in town. So the day of the wedding we invite you to come out early with your favorite kite and have some fun!  It's the perfect place for reclaiming your childhood, and when we say "Go fly a kite!", we aren't being jerks; we actually mean it.

In the rare event that there is no wind to be found then bring out your fishing pole.  The pond on the ranch is a catch and release pond-- this means absolutely no barbs, no live bait . Please check with the ranch before you fish there. The river on the other hand, flows through a portion of the ranch and has some great holes. You can purchase daily fishing licenses in town and kids fish free under adults' licenses. The Wind River Valley is home to some top notch fishing.

Other stuff around the area

Golfing, as you know, is a favorite (and by this, we mean Matt's favorite).  Antelope hills Golf course (307.455.2888) is fun little 9 hole course with low fees and cheap beer. Only 15 minutes from the ranch and right in Dubois.

Also, tubing is always a great sunny day option. Look around for tubes before you come, as town doesn't carry much of a stock.

Hiking, horses, ATV's and simply cruising old logging roads with a case of road sodas, is a staple of existence for many locals. There are some amazing things to see without the hassle and crowds of Jellystone. We hope to get some groups going to the natural bridge, see the Petroglyph's, and hike up to some favorite spots. There are many places that can be accessed with a small car but there are also ATV rentals and day horse rides available in town. 

Jellystone

Yellowstone National park is nearby. You can easily go and see many of the attractions around the park and make it back to Dubois to make dinner. Although it will be crowded with millions of people that time of year, everyone really should go see Old Faithful and the mud flats.  (It truly is amazing how many people there are that love to sit and watch water boil.)

Dornan's 

For you tourons (which is our fancy word for tourists, meaning YOU), you probably want to go check out Jackson.  But the thing is, is that it's loaded with as many tourons as our house is with dog hair.  So to us, the crowd is...kind of annoying.  But hey if you want to check it out, you definitely should do so.  And drop the rest of your party off at Dornan's while you go exploring the Jackson town square.  Dornan's is located...I dunno, 20 miles or so this side of Jackson and it's located right at the base of the Tetons.  They've got decent food, stout drinks, and an unbeatable view.  We highly recommend checking it out.

What the hell is:

• a pack trip? Ask our friends at Bear Basin Adventures --this is a must do in your lifetime.
• a Dude Ranch? Although the MacKenzie Highland Ranch is an á la carte ranch, the area is loaded with full service Dude ranches where you can stay, ride horses, eat, and enjoy a ranch experience for a price.  Dude=Guest.  Think Billy Crystal in that one movie--y'know, the one with the horses and some cows. Only, minus the cows.
• a grizzly bear?  You don't want to know.  If you see one, we hope you can run faster than the person you're with.
